Moving

There will be many days when doing nothing seems like the absolute only choice. And, while we hope we don't have many of those days we can admit that it is likely that we will run into bad days.
And still, moving is helpful. Moving our bodies can help in recovery in lots of ways. However, less helpful, is chiding ourselves because we are not moving (or exercising) the way that we...should...used to...are capable of...have been told to...have been nagged about (you get the picture).
So instead of condemning ourselves for not moving in the "right" ways, maybe we could give ourselves credit for what we are doing. And remember all movement is helpful...
A wave counts.
A smile counts.
A walk counts.
Lifting a 5-pound potato sack (with or without potatoes) counts.
Running a marathon counts.
Climbing the stairs counts.
Walking from a far away parking spot counts.
Lifting weights counts.
Swimming (heck even floating) counts.
Our bodies love to move and moving helps us. Don't get hung up on doing it "right." Remember even just a little helps. And when you do move remember to give yourself a figurative (or literal) high five. Because criticizing ourselves for not moving "right" will unnecessarily discourage us.
This might also be true for folks that aren't going though cancerworld.
